Hey guys, its me again. You remember, the guy who wrote about the Blood Elves. Anyway, so I’ve been gone from the Lorecraft Podcast for a while. Life has just been kicking my butt lately, ya know? And you know what? I’ve got some friends who know all about having life kick their butts. In fact we all know them. Some of us love them and some of us hate them, but they’re here to stay. And they’re called the Draenei. Now these guys have a long history of life giving them the short end of the stick. So lets take a minute and look at just what life has given these guys.

The Draenei didn’t start out as Draenei. Nope, originally they were called Eradar and they came from the world of Argus. The Eradar were this race of magically gifted people who had already built a great civilization. The Eradar were led by these three great guys called Archimonde, Kil’jaeden, and Velen. Sound familiar? Yeah thats because they’re all over the warcraft universe.

Our pal Sargeras was on his “lets destroy everything” kick and decided to bolster the ranks of the burning legion by adding in the Eradar. So he goes to Argus and he tells them that if they serve him he’ll give them immortality and power. And what do you know, Kil’jaeden and Archimonde agree. But Velen received this vision of the Eradar being corrupted into demons, and so he refused to go along with it. The group of Eradar that followed Velen left. With the help of the Naaru, they created space ships and ran off to the world that would later be known as Draenor.

When they left, Velen named his people the Draenei, or Exiled Ones. And they were hunted across the cosmos by the Eradar. The Eradar destroyed numerous worlds in they’re chase after the Draenei. Eventually though, the Draenei found a relatively safe world and settled there. They named this world Draenor, or Exile’s Refuge, and began trading with the indigenous people. These people were none other than the orcs. And the Draenei kept hidden on their new world for as long as they could.

Nothing lasts forever and after about 25,000 years of searching, Talgath, one of Kil’jaeden’s agents, stumbled onto Draenor. Completely by accident. So what does he do? Obviously he goes back and tells Kil’jaeden. Which means the Draenei are found yet again. But this time Kil’jaeden didn’t just let the Draenei escape. No, this time he corrupted the orcs and sent them to fight and kill the Draenei. And so the Draenei and the Orcs fought a war for 8 years. And in the end the Draenei lost. But while Kil’jaeden thought he had destroyed them forever, he had actually only killed about 80% of them. Those that were left had hidden in Zangarmarsh. And they would have stayed there too.

Then the Blood Elves found their way to Outland. And they realized the power of the former Naaru fortress known as Tempest Keep. The Blood Elves seized the keep, and the Draenei tried to escape by retaking one wing. This wing of the keep was called the Exodar and was one of those space ship things that had brought the Draenei to Draenor in the first place. Unfortunately, before they could escape, the Blood Elves managed to sabotage what was essentially their engine. And so when they tried to run, they wound up spiraling out of control through the Twisting Nether. After a time they finally crash landed in the Azuremyst Isles, off the coast of Kalimdor. When they started to explore, contact with the Night Elves was obviously unavoidable. So they joined the alliance and have become the Draenei we were able to play in Burning Crusade.

Well thats it for yet another article. As always I am Ukragal Fireaxe, writing for the Lorecraft Podcast. So get back in there and get to the Warcraft.
